The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requires that all staff who provide service to the public receive training on providing customer service for customers with disabilities. This requirement applies to all full time, part time and contract staff including students, volunteers and external contractors who provide service to our customers on our behalf. This is an on-going requirement which means that organizations have to be prepared to provide this training throughout the year, whenever new people are brought in.
This course will provide participants with an opportunity to learn more about the legislated requirement and the various options available to deliver the training.
Topics include:
- The Purpose of the AODA and its application to our workplace
- The Customer Service Standard: understanding the legislation
- Staff training requirements: what has to be covered in the training
- Options for delivering the training
- Providing the training in-house
- Developing an effective approach to training youth and adults
